G'day! Welcome to The Discount Shed.
We're part of a proud Aussie family-owned group of dealerships, operating since 1982 (Benson Family Trust - ABN: 12 174 088 605).
We own & operate a few other traditional dealerships across NSW, servicing areas such as outdoor power equipment, irrigation, and pool & spa supplies - but The Discount Shed is a brand we are launching into the "discount online sales model" space. Our traditional dealerships often have trouble matching the prices of online discounters - they don't have the overheads of showrooms, workshops, parts interpreter staff etc. And they usually don't carry any stock, which is a major expense.
We reckon there’s always going to be a place for good old-fashioned dealership service, but the biggest and fastest-growing group of customers today simply want the great products we offer, at the best possible price. The same products - none of the frills. Jet Star vs. Qantas Lounge lovers, if you will.
That’s exactly why we launched "The Discount Shed" in 2025 – it's something we are calling a "Hybrid Dealer". The basics of what a dealer does, without any unnecessary frills, with all the savings passed on to you! The Discount Shed is strictly an "order in" dealership. We have a showroom full of display products, but those products are not available to buy - they are for looking, touching, feeling & sitting on. And they're only a representative range of what we can offer - there is so much more than what you see!
If you want to see and hold before you make a purchase, we have you covered! If you don't? Just browse and order from the comfort of your own home - at whatever time of day suits you.
So, if you're someone who values price & quality above speed, then The Discount Shed is designed for you.
Check out the difference between The Discount Shed, Full Service Dealerships & Amazon / eBay in the simple table below... and if you still don't think the discounts are worth the wait, *please* go and shop at your local dealership.

Yes
Dealers usually stock brand genuine items and can order in any aftermarket parts - usually through providers with Australian Distribution centers, offering spare parts warranty.
Sometimes
Although you can sometimes find genuine products & parts, Amazon / eBay, etc are dominated by aftermarket & copy products - often built to questionable standards and with no express warranty.

Usually, everything you see in a dealer's showroom is available to buy that same day.
No
You can only see it on your screen, and hope that's what you get if you order it.

Repairs - Flat rate diagnostic fee, paid on booking. For this fee, you will receive a written quote listing parts & work required to repair your broken equipment.

Yes
If you value human interaction, and the DECADES of knowledge & experience in the products they sell, service, and repair - PLEASE use a full-service dealer. But please respect that this service is part of their price - do not expect them to match ours.
No
Warehouse picking staff only.
Technical Staff
No
Technical Services are provided via subcontractors - we do not have our own technical staff.
Yes
You could argue that having technical staff is what makes a dealer a dealer at all - all dealers have at least one technician, and some have several. Technicians with experience & knowledge in the field of small engine mechanics are getting increasingly hard to find, however. And technicians who can understand and work on both small engines AND battery/electronic equipment are even rarer again.
No
Warehouse picking staff only.
Buy It Today, Take It Home Today
Not Usually
With the exception of some very fast-moving spare parts & accessories that we purchase in bulk, typically everything you order from us is only sourced from the supplier after you place your order, and is usually grouped with other customer orders to minimise any freight costs to us.
Yes
If the dealer has it in stock, you can usually take it home with you that day. If not, they can usually order it for you reasonably quickly.
No
You have to hand it to them, Amazon runs incredible warehouses - not only does their pick, pack & dispatch time put supplier warehouses in our industry to shame, but they are also *way* bigger than us, so they get preferential treatment from couriers. If it's the speed you need, by all means, shop at Amazon.
Spare Parts Lookup Service
Charged Service
Subcontracted out to a professional Parts Interpreter. If you don't know your spare part numbers, you can order and pay for a spare parts lookup service via our website - simply supply your make, model & serial numbers, plus photos or a description of the parts you want when placing your order for a parts lookup request, and we'll reply to you (usually within 24 hours) with your part numbers & a quote for us to supply them… but feel free to use those part numbers anywhere. If a parts lookup PDF is available for your machine, we will supply it to you.
Yes
Spare Parts Interpretation is a skill that takes years to train, and dealers usually offer this service for free. Often, if you bought your equipment from them, they won't even need to know your equipment details, as they'll have it on record. They may not give you part numbers, though.
No
You're lucky if you can even buy spare parts for equipment bought on Amazon & eBay - and there is certainly no one to help you look up parts if there are.
Everything Assembled & Tested
Only If Required
All ride-on equipment is assembled, per requirements, with Australian Consumer Law. Other goods are assembled & pre-delivered if required by the manufacturer. Otherwise, assembly & pre-delivery are not included.
Yes
Generally speaking, a dealer will fully assemble, pre-deliver & test every piece of equipment they sell - this means when you get it home, it is guaranteed ready to put to work.
No
You will need to assemble it yourself, which means having the right tools and following the (often terrible) assembly instructions.
Waste Packaging Disposal
Optional
We are happy to dispose of your waste for you, and by default, we include it in all of our pricing. If you are happy to take your equipment crates away with you, though, we are happy to pass on any savings to you with an extra discount on your order.
Yes
This is a cost that dealers usually absorb, meaning it is built into their prices.
No
Buy In Store
Yes
In-Store Touchscreen Ordering Kiosks, or via your phone or iPad.
Yes
Often this is the only way to buy from a dealership. In person, over the counter. This can be great, depending on how busy they are.
No
These guys practically invented online selling. It's the only way. They have warehouses only.
Pay With Cash
Yes
But we only accept exact amounts - we do not have a till or carry change, so we cannot offer you change. All our cash takings are deposited directly into a safe, which is inaccessible to staff.
Yes
Dealers have sales counters with tills, so they can offer you change if you cannot make the exact amount.
No
Never have, never will.
Long Term, Interest-Free Finance
No
Despite consumer interest free finance being "free" to customers (except for monthly fees), it is a major expense for shops that offer it. We are not allowed to pass the associated costs on, like we can with credit cards, so we instead simply do not offer it.
Yes
Zip Money, Zip Pay, Humm90 & AfterPay - almost all dealers will offer these consumer finance options. They cost the dealers A LOT to provide, though, so don't expect any discounts if you choose to use them.
Not Usually
Except for PayPal pay in four split payments, there are not usually any interest-free payment methods offered.
Commercial Finance
Yes
Simply choose to pay via "Bank Transfer" at checkout, and you will automatically be emailed a ProForma Invoice that your finance company can use to process your finance application. As soon as you reply to that email with your finance approval, we will process your order and take it from there.
Yes
Most dealers will have relationships with one or more commercial finance providers - or will otherwise deal with any other provider you nominate. There is a bit of extra admin involved, but dealers usually build the cost of this into their prices.
No
No Tax Invoice is issued before payment, so no commercial finance is possible.
Fee Free Credit Card Payments
Yes
But if you choose to pay for your order with EFTPOS, Cash, or Bank Transfer, we will discount it even further!
Yes
These costs are usually absorbed by the dealer, and built into their pricing. This is why dealers may offer discounts for cash or direct deposit payments.
Yes
Since it's the only way to pay, these costs are built into their pricing.
Free Delivery
No
Retailers that offer "free" freight are simply building the cost of freight in to their prices. To keep our prices as low as possible, all of our advertised prices are based on orders being picked up from our warehouse. We have partnered with Sendle for Australia wide delivery of all orders under 25kg - but anything larger/bulkier, or anything that has to be assembled first, can only be collected from our warehouse.
Sometimes
Dealers usually prefer you to collect your orders in-store, but may offer free delivery of bulky items, or if you spend over a certain amount.
Sometimes
But only after you spend a certain amount - which means delivery costs are built into their prices.
